Flavor of the Week: Lagged

Maybe you’re crazy: I present to you the seizure-inducing Gnarls Barkley video produced by a few of my friends that MTV doesn’t want you to see.

China dolls: Two of the most adorable faces in design, Tobi Wong and Aric Chen, have just been named creative directors of the first 100% Design Shanghai, to be held June 26-28. There better be another designer tattoo parlor, and this time Aric better be getting one.

Picked to live in a house: Six women from art, fashion, architecture and design are living together, making stuff and throwing parties at a house in Silver Lake during a year-long residency sponsored by QuikSilver called Site LA. What? No vying for an engagement ring from a stranger? What in the world will they do?

I love stripping: What a great idea for a feature, suddenly-relevant Los Angeles Times! This piece about local strip mall finds features some real gems. My faves from the list: Alegria, Lou, Mashti Malone’s, Shintaro and Zankou, and how about a bonus point for the strip club located in a strip mall? Yes, Jumbo’s Clown Room.

TED in the LBC: The Technology Entertainment and Design conference that no one who’s anyone can get into moves to the Terrace Theater in beautiful downtown Long Beach starting in 2009. Sure, more people will be able to attend, but will everyone have to stay on the Queen Mary?

Sorry: I had a rough week. Still getting up at 4am and crashing hard around 5pm, leaving little time to write. Leaving for SXSW tomorrow, though, where I’ll be going to bed at 4am and waking up at 5pm, so I think everything will work out just fine.

My undying flavor-of-the-week gratitude goes out to Kendra Inman and Jonathan Wells.
