King of the web
If you don’t know him already, it’s the perfect time to meet my good friend Khoi Vinh. Khoi is probably one of the most famous web designers in the world. If you ever hang around him at a geek-fest like SXSW you will understand. Khoi has fans, like, serious fans, who babble in his presence and ask him to sign their laptops. Just kidding about that last part but you can see for yourself how popular he is: Comments on his blog Subtraction are some of the least nasty on the internet, which I think reflects the deep and utter respect the online community has for him.
Khoi works at the NY Times, or more specifically, NYTimes.com, where he has a really nice office in the new Renzo Piano building and sees people like Bill Cunningham wandering the halls while he’s giving tours to his friends visiting from LA (Bill totally checked out my outfit. Swear.) And he also recently started a new blog, with another webstar, Liz Danzico, called A Brief Message, where all essays are 200 words or less, something my overblogged eyes can always appreciate. Khoi talks about all this and more in an interview with Steve Heller. The article is actually in the latest issue of Print, four pages away from my review of the new American Craft, but doesn’t it seem way more appropriate to read it online?
