Hot Modernism

Reflective

Okay, it’s 100 degrees in New York, what do you do? Go look at buildings that are like giant mirrors!

Lever 2000

Actually, the green glass of the Lever House kept things rather cool.

Thanks to Rob for coming along on the Sweaty Skyscraper Tour.

Not hot enough for you? Try these NY photos.

Let's see...the first one is 9 W. 57th Street, or the Solow Building. The last one is the complex looking south from 1221 Avenue of the Americas, which is part of Rockefeller Center and I think one of them is called the McGraw-Hill Building, not to be confused with the Old McGraw-Hill Building in Times Square!
  • I'm embarrassed: I can identify Lever House, but not the other two! Which skyscrapers are those?

I'd love to go on a walking tour of New York's skyscrapers, looking at the evolution of the form, starting with the Flatiron Building, although the most recent example won't actually be complete for three years...

(Sorry, I'm an amateur architecture dork. :)
