Sure, it was no 25K mountain climb, but the quick SOAR race last Sunday through the agricultural basin of Moorpark was like a high-speed harvest preview.

We parked in a walnut grove, where the loud craaaaacks underfoot were actually perfect little pre-run snacks. Nature’s energy bar!

The corn was high. As were the winds, which were beginning to whip nearby fires into infernos.

Pepper trees lined the roads and smelled fantastic.

Orange you glad you did this race?

Tomatoes stewing on the vine.

Fields of radishes, summer squash and zucchini rendered in those poetically straight rows.

Hot peppers.

Sweet peppers.

Rusty, hulking industrial gorgeousness.

And like any good fall race, this one ended at a pumpkin patch.
More produce pics.
