This was one of those stop-and-sigh perfect moments on Friday night, as I walked towards Los Feliz and a fizzy rosé revelation at my new favorite neighborhood bar. I passed a dozen banners advertising John Baldessari’s new LACMA show but didn’t really notice the image on it until I turned the corner on Sunset and the light caused it to almost blend seamlessly into the sunset behind. I loved that it’s this frozen urban scene suspended in an urban scene in motion, the fact that both skies are exactly the same shade of blue, the way the palm tree appears like punctuation, a pattern repeated on every LA block.
