Winter in LA

Fantastic hillside near the Hyperion bridge

Everyone’s been asking me lately, as reports of my shivering have drifted to Twitter and Facebook: What’s it like in LA in the winter? Is it cold? Does it snow? Can you still eat gelato? So I thought I’d compile a few photos from recent walks around the city to show you winter in LA.

At Shutters

Yes, we wear winter coats, and scarves, and tights.

Iceplant at my feet

But we also wear sandals and sundresses.

Snow from Silver Lake

At the top of my street, while standing under a palm tree, I can see snow.

Amazing snowcapped peaks

And a place where you can actually touch it is not too far away.

Citrus

In the winter, our trees change colors, too.

Fluffy pink blossoms

Sometimes really great colors.

...and an orange sherbet sunset closes out the week-long show. When LA does weather, LA does *weather*!

Sure, we might see a few more clouds than in other seasons.

ICE CREAM

But luckily, we don’t have to give up any of our summer rituals.

Sunglasses! Remind me how these things work again?

So yes, LA is still the greatest place in the world, even in winter.

Everything here is wonderful

And basically, everything here is wonderful.

More LA photos right this way.

So different from everything I know! I dont know if I could live in a place without seasons though. I like watching everything change. Although these gorgeous pictures may convince me otherwise!

I could get use to it. We had 20 below this morning, as I was bottle feeding the lambs, I'm sure there is a place where they have farms there too? I still would have to have a farm! I couldn't have a place without growing my own. I love seeing this, it would be nice to be warm all year long!

Contrary to what everyone thinks, we do have seasons in California.

I grew up in Santa Monica and moved to NY 10yrs ago…sure in winter time I think of LA but the energy of NY and spring and summers here still make it all worth it and NY is still greatest place on Earth :)

  • Lindacordone

I like CA, just can't get used to all the concrete…and palm trees don't provide much shade. :)

Yor deluded, LA is a hell-hole.

Maybe it's nice for some privileged bourgeoisie fool wit a food blog, but the real people know LA is terrible.

nice place to live but not live. it's dirty, polluted, full of traffic and most of it looks like a giant strip mall with palm trees.

“yor deluded”? LOL. “You're” uneducated. Real people like me, even those who live south of Los Angeles, know that L.A. has many great things going for it. In this case, the pics speak for themselves. Beautiful seasons. All the best within a few miles of it. I live in San Diego, but many of these reminded me of why I love Socal in general–the diversity of people, the diversity of cultures, the diversity of the geography. Mountains, deserts, forests and oceans all within close reach. New York, Chicago and other places can never touch Socal because it has everything–and they don't. What a wonderful blog; this is the first time I've read it. Glad I found it!

Fabuleuxdestinbrenna: Southern Calif. has all seasons within a few miles of the city. We love watching everything change, too. You would be fine there watching everything change.
