A gelato walking tour

A few months ago, my friend and writing guru extraordinaire David Hochman asked me to donate a prize to the annual holiday party/fundraiser for UPOD, an awesome online writers’ community (which you should join right now if you’re a writer!). We came up with the idea of a custom architectural walking tour I’d create for the winner anywhere in Los Angeles—as long as it ended with gelato.

The awesome Kim Kuhteubl was the lucky winner and I triangulated the best neighborhood for our walk based on her architectural preferences, time of day, and proximity to ice cream. A few weeks ago on a beautiful afternoon we embarked upon a stroll through the Victorians of Angelino Heights, a few secret staircases, and a particularly tropical-looking Echo Park Lake.

Kind Kreme

We concluded with vegan ice cream by Kind Kreme at Sage (the former Moooi space) in Echo Park. Now I’m not a huge fan of the non-dairy frozen desserts, but the flavors, like kale coconut and cheremoya, were definitely inspired. It was actually quite light and refreshing for a hot day. If you’d like me to put together one of these custom gelato walking tours for you or your friends, just let me know and I’ll send you a quote. Vegan tours now available!

Speaking of UPOD, I gave them a shout out in this interview with me by the awesome Beyond Words blog for their “In the Workplace” feature. Thanks to Angela Shetler for asking me to be a part of it!
