Last weekend, we headed out into the desert for the wedding of our dear friends Jon and Sonja. It was absolutely one of the most beautiful events I’ve ever attended, with plenty of contributions from their long list of creative friends—including a custom tagline painted by none other than the talented Keith Scharwath.
The guests took over the entire 29 Palms Inn, the legendary bohemian resort, where we packed into the adorable adobe bungalows and lounged poolside pretty much the entire weekend.
One of my favorite details was Friday night: As we drove in from LA we arrived at a outdoor screening of The Princess Bride, complete with old-timey popcorn popper and a candy bar. “MAWWAGE.”
The wedding itself was at a secret location out in the desert.
Afterwards, in a hilariously unscripted moment, all the guests scrambled up a hill to get a view of the setting sun. The photographers shot what will be one of the most stunning photos of the day: The happy couple and their closest friends spread out along the golden ridge, as the light slowly drains from the sky.
Jon and Sonja transformed what was a special day for them into a collaborative effort for us, from enlisting volunteers to craft decorations to employing our specific dancing skills. And in doing so, they made their wedding all about the special relationships they had with their friends. The more we were involved, the more it meant to all of us, too.
Because truly, we are all in this together.
Congratulations to our wonderful friends.
